The drive sampler is typically used to obtain undisturbed surface soil sample for verification of field soil density and compaction percentage, and for further laboratory testing such as Direct Shear Test. This kit is to obtain undisturbed precise volume of soil. The undisturbed sample can be transported in a stainless steel ring (undisturbed) to the lab for shear testing and wet/dry density calculations. Moisture content procedure and tools are not included. Typically, field moisture content calculation may require slow cooking a small portion soil sample to evaporate the moisture. This may require a portable propane stove and a light pan (Not included).

This test is normally used as a backup or compaction testing on small scale jobs. It may also be used to verify compaction results by grading contractors and soil technicians. The testing kit components are made to obtain fast and immediate field results with minimal procedure steps. The sampler can also be used to obtain samples from the bottom of shallow excavations.

This test is safer than using a nuclear gauge. I ought to know. I had thyroid cancer back in 1989 from using a leaky nuclear gauge. The thyroid cancer came back on me in 2012 in my right lung. Thank God I am cancer free for now.
